Lydia’s House
Cincinnati, OhioLydia’s House is a home for women and children experiencing homelessness. They provide supportive, safe and stable housing for these families, first via their shelter (which houses up to six families) and then through their affordable apartments. As of Fall 2025, they also run a daycare for current and former kids of the shelter. Lydia’s House is a Catholic Worker house and strives to exemplify many of the tenants of that model of ministry, such as community meals.
L’Arche Cork
Cork, Republic of IrelandThe main role of a house assistant in L’Arche is to live and build community by creating a home with people who have an intellectual disability and with the other assistants in the house in which you are living. L’Arche is first and foremost a community, where the emphasis is on sharing life as opposed to being cared for or giving care. The only requirement to serve as an assistant is a willingness to learn and an open attitude.
New Bethany
Bethlehem, PennsylvaniaNew Bethany is a community of hope and support for people experiencing poverty, hunger, and homelessness. The organization operates a soup kitchens, a food pantry, transitional and permanent housing, and provides wrap-around services designed to help people stabilize their lives. Located in a walkable area near the Appalachian Trail, New Bethany is particularly active in the Lehigh Valley, where it serves the community through various initiatives and outreach efforts.
Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center
Little Rock, ArkansasFerncliff Camp and Conference Center serves as a summer camp, retreat center, preschool, and center for mission & outreach on 1,200 acres of forested land with two lakes and a variety of outdoor activities and recreational spaces. Ferncliff’s emphasis is on outreach, eco- sustainability, and outdoor experiential learning through their summer camp programs, nature preschool, and disaster outreach efforts.
