The Souper Bowl of Caring Challenge: Inspiring acts of love and service

The Northern Indiana District Churches of the Brethren recently wrapped up their second Annual Souper Bowl of Caring Challenge. This initiative encouraged congregations throughout the district to gather cans of soup to aid the hungry, over a period of time spanning six and a half weeks from Christmas to Super Bowl Sunday.

Gene Hollenberg announces his retirement from leadership of Camp Mack

Gene Hollenberg has announced his plan to retire as executive director of Camp Alexander Mack in Milford, Ind., at the end of the year. He has served in the position for almost 10 years, since September 2016. He previously gave 40 years of volunteer leadership.

Peace witness at Raytheon/RTX brings together Church of the Brethren and other participants

Over 50 people gathered outside Raytheon/RTX, one of 10 weapons contractors in Fort Wayne, Ind., on the afternoon of Sept. 5. Participants representing at least six Church of the Brethren congregations from the two church districts in Indiana, and a group of 10 from the Manchester University Kenapocomoco Peace Coalition, were joined by other Christians, Muslims, Jews, and non-faith folks to say a strong “NO!” to the Israeli/US genocide against Gaza.

Camp Alexander Mack receives large grant from Lilly Endowment

We have EXCITING news! Lilly Endowment Inc., through the Strengthening Youth Programs Initiative, has awarded Camp Mack a three-year $620,926 grant to use the outdoor education program in support of local school districts and to offer a day camp during extended school breaks. Camp Alexander Mack, a ministry of the Northern Indiana and South Central Indiana Districts of the Church of the Brethren, is located near Milford, Ind.

Torin Eikler Named Executive Minister of Northern Indiana District

Torin S. Eikler has been called to serve Northern Indiana District as district executive minister, a four-fifths time position beginning Sept. 1. Currently he is a team co-pastor at Morgantown (W.Va.) Church of the Brethren, which also is affiliated with Mennonite Church USA.

Atlantic Southeast, Northern Indiana Name Interim District Executives

Two districts have named interim executive ministers, Northern Indiana District and Atlantic Southeast District. Carol Spicher Waggy will be interim district executive for Northern Indiana in a three-quarter-time position beginning Jan. 1, 2013, for a period of up to two years. Terry L. Grove begins immediately as interim district executive for Atlantic Southeast, in a part-time position.
