Gene Hollenberg has announced his plan to retire as executive director of Camp Alexander Mack in Milford, Ind., at the end of the year. He has served in the position for almost 10 years, since September 2016. He previously gave 40 years of volunteer leadership.

As I visit congregations, people often ask me what commonalities are present in thriving churches. The three markers I have learned to name are ancient wisdom rearticulated: orientation around spiritual practices (Love of God), healthy internal relationships (Love of one another), and taking the literal needs of actual neighbors seriously (Love of neighbor). The integration of these three markers is what we are calling Being the Body of Christ.
Andrews Church of the Brethren water ministry receives district support
The Church of the Brethren’s South Central Indiana District is helping to raise funds for the water ministry of Andrews Church of the Brethren at the district conference to be held this Saturday, Sept. 13.
Peace witness at Raytheon/RTX brings together Church of the Brethren and other participants
Over 50 people gathered outside Raytheon/RTX, one of 10 weapons contractors in Fort Wayne, Ind., on the afternoon of Sept. 5. Participants representing at least six Church of the Brethren congregations from the two church districts in Indiana, and a group of 10 from the Manchester University Kenapocomoco Peace Coalition, were joined by other Christians, Muslims, Jews, and non-faith folks to say a strong “NO!” to the Israeli/US genocide against Gaza.
Camp Alexander Mack receives large grant from Lilly Endowment
We have EXCITING news! Lilly Endowment Inc., through the Strengthening Youth Programs Initiative, has awarded Camp Mack a three-year $620,926 grant to use the outdoor education program in support of local school districts and to offer a day camp during extended school breaks. Camp Alexander Mack, a ministry of the Northern Indiana and South Central Indiana Districts of the Church of the Brethren, is located near Milford, Ind.
Laura Stone to lead South Central Indiana District
The Church of the Brethren’s South Central Indiana District has called Laura Stone as district executive minister beginning on Feb. 1. She is currently the chaplain at Timbercrest Senior Living Community in North Manchester, Ind., a position she has held since May 2018, and also is a spiritual director.
Marie Willoughby to serve as co-interim executive for South Central Indiana District
South Central Indiana District of the Church of the Brethren has called Marie Willoughby as co-interim district executive minister, as of Oct. 15, serving alongside Anna Lisa Gross. She replaces Kay Gaier, who served in the position from Jan. 15, 2022.

Beth Sollenberger retires from leadership of South Central Indiana District
Beth Sollenberger has announced her retirement as district executive minister of South Central Indiana District. She has served in leadership of the district for nearly 11 years, beginning on Feb. 1, 2011. She will conclude her ministry on Dec. 31.
