On July 3-4, all ministers of the Church of the Brethren denomination will have an opportunity to reconnect with one another at the annual pre-Annual Conference continuing education event. Some ministers haven’t seen each other in person since before COVID.
Pastor Yakubu Shuaibu Kwala, who served a congregation of Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria) in the Biu area of Borno State in northeast Nigeria, was killed on April 4 in a night-time attack on his home by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The attackers shot and wounded his pregnant wife, who was taken to hospital for treatment. The pastor also is survived by another child.

Five Children’s Disaster Services (CDS) volunteers deployed this week to the Little Rock, Ark., vicinity after a series of three tornados hit the area on March 31. One EF3 tornado, with winds of 165 miles per hour, touched down west of Little Rock and stayed on the ground for 34 miles, causing extensive damage.
Bethany Theological Seminary’s president Jeff Carter sent out a thank you note via email to seminary supporters, expressing gratitude for the prayers and messages of concern that have been received following the large industrial fire that broke out last week in Richmond, Ind., where the seminary campus is located.
