Shine curriculum introduces Shine Everywhere

By LeAnn Hamby

The Shine curriculum of Brethren Press and MennoMedia is introducing a new initiative called Shine Everywhere. Shine Everywhere will provide new avenues of communication between those who create Shine curriculum and the congregations and families who use it. The purpose of the new initiative is to listen attentively to congregations and families and then incorporate their input into new Shine resources.

Shine: Living in God’s Light is a Sunday school curriculum that inspires children and youth to follow Jesus through engagement with the Bible, prayer practices, play, and conversation in flexible, age-appropriate lessons.

“Shine Everywhere allows us to give focused time and attention to discovering and practicing the ‘everywhere’ habits that grow faith in children,” said project facilitator Shana Peachey Boshart. “We look forward to deepening our relationships with congregations and families, listening for what is working to grow faith, and providing helpful resources for churches, families, and children.”

“We are excited to draw closer to families and equip churches as we together build the habits of faith,” said Shine copublisher Amy Gingerich. “We continue to hear that parents and congregations need helps and simple faith practices, and Shine Everywhere allows us to explore together what that means. We want to know parents’ hopes and goals for their children’s faith formation and what role parents want churches to have in that. We will then use that feedback to respond creatively with resources.”

A grant of $1.25 million from Lilly Endowment Inc. supports the development of Shine Everywhere. MennoMedia received the grant in 2023 on behalf of Shine, a joint publication of MennoMedia and Brethren Press. The grant is part of Lilly Endowment’s Christian Parenting and Caregiving Initiative, which aims to help parents and caregivers share their faith and values with their children.

Shine Everywhere is designed to be a place to share, learn, be known, and be heard. Anyone interested in learning more or joining the initiative can sign up at https://shinecurriculum.com/2024/02/14/introducing-shine-everywhere.
