The Deportation Defense Response Team created by four Church of the Brethren districts with the Intercultural Ministries and On Earth Peace continue to host online events.
Faith leaders from many congregations including Churches of the Brethren in the area around Dayton, Ohio, are gathering for an ecumenical service of lament and mourning in support of detained and deported immigrants. The event is planned for this Sunday evening, Sept. 14, at 6:30 p.m., at the East Dayton Fellowship which is jointly affiliated with the Church of the Brethren.
The Northern Plains District of the Church of the Brethren, which includes the state of Minnesota in its area, joined in a statement of grief from the Minnesota Council of Churches (MCC) following the shooting of children from Annunciation Catholic School on Aug. 27.
On Sunday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. (Eastern time), the 55th annual Dunker Church Service will be held at the Dunker Church on the Antietam National Battlefield. Often noted as one of the most remarkable landmarks on this battlefield, the church has long stood for peace and love even during one of the most brutal confrontations of the Civil War.
The daily worship services at the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference in Greensboro, N.C., on July 2-6 will be live streamed and available to view online free of charge.
Members of two congregations in the Church of the Brethren’s Southern Ohio and Kentucky District and one congregation in Pacific Southwest District were deported in the last two weeks, to Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. Please pray for their families left behind in the United States and the church communities that continue to support them.
Prayer for the international guests who will be attending Annual Conference this year is requested by Global Mission executive director Sharon Brugger Norton. She requests general prayers for their safety and safe travels, with no problems at the border, “and a reminder to greet them warmly and thank them for coming.”
