A total of 13 service trips are planned for FaithX 2024, the Church of the Brethren’s program of short-term service opportunities for youth, young adults, and adults. New opportunities include more options for combined junior and senior high youth groups, a family camp with childcare provided, an older adult trip in February, and both international and domestic trips for adults.
This summer, nearly 175 participants ranging in age from 12 to 68 joined a FaithX service trip to explore a new place, live in community, grow in Christian discipleship, and act as the hands and feet of Christ in the world.
“Have you heard? FaithX registration opens on Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. (central time)!” said an invitation from FaithX staff Marissa Witkovsky-Eldred. “The FaithX Office invites you to join them this summer to put your faith into action!”
FaithX invites college-age young adults (high school graduates to age 23) to join a new short-term service opportunity during the spring of 2023. This exciting trip on March 11-16, 2023, will partner with SPARK in Winston-Salem, N.C., to help neighbors in need and spread kindness in the community.
Marissa Witkovsky-Eldred has been hired by the Church of the Brethren as interim coordinator of Short-term Service, beginning Oct. 3 as a remote employee working from Washington, D.C.
Zechariah Houser has resigned as the Church of the Brethren’s coordinator of short-term service, effective Aug. 12. He has worked for the denomination for close to a year, having started on Aug. 9, 2021. He will be entering a chaplaincy internship.
The Church of the Brethren Intercultural Ministries has started an online Global Check-in and Prayer Series, which will welcome special guests to speak on various topics.
Emily Tyler has resigned as director of Brethren Volunteer Service (BVS), effective Feb. 18, after three years in the position. She started as director of BVS on Feb. 4, 2019. She has been employed by the Church of the Brethren and BVS for almost 10 years, since June 27, 2012, when she began as coordinator for BVS recruitment and the Workcamp Ministry.
Registration for FaithX (formerly workcamps) events in the summer of 2022 opens online next Thursday, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. (Eastern time) at www.brethren.org/faithx.
Using 2 Corinthians 5:7 as a starting point, FaithX’s 2022 theme is “Boundless Faith.” This theme explores the different ways that the Bible describes Christian faith and seeks broader horizons in the faith we share.
