Project Description:
ABODE is an emergency shelter in the Bay area that provides temporary housing for homeless families and individuals. They also provide support services and help their residents move towards independence and stable housing. Volunteers will be able to develop relationships with residents and other volunteers while working at the front desk, with donations, or in the kitchen.

Duties and Responsibilities:
(A) Shelter Monitors provide direct services to program residents at Sunrise Village. Responsibilities include staffing the front desk, engaging with donors and volunteers, answering phones, enforcing program guidelines, informally counseling residents, managing chores, and completing data entry. Shelter Monitors ensure the facility is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
(B) The Kitchen Assistant works directly with the Kitchen Coordinator to maintain the operations of the kitchen, dining rooms, and food pantry at Sunrise Village. Tasks include ensuring that all procedures for kitchen/ food safety are maintained, that supplies are stocked, and that equipment is operational. This position assists with quality control and inventory of food, organization of food pantries, and the resident lunch bag program. This position also assists the meal group volunteers as needed. Experience with food preparation is a plus but not required.
(C) The Donation Assistant supports the Volunteer Coordinator in managing and organizing in-kind donations at Sunrise Village. This individual plays a vital role in ensuring that donations are sorted, recorded, and distributed effectively, while also helping fulfill requests from other Abode Services sites. This individual also helps with research of potential in-kind donors and the inputting of donations into Abode’s database. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, comfortable with light travel, and passionate about serving the community.
