Service Sunday

2021 suggested date: February 7

Look! I’m doing a new thing;
    now it sprouts up; don’t you recognize it?
I’m making a way in the desert,
    paths in the wilderness.

–Isaiah 43:19 CEB

The Church of the Brethren’s Service Sunday is recognized annually the first Sunday in February. Congregations and leaders are asked to use this Sunday to recognize those who serve, or have served, in their local communities and throughout the world. The Church of the Brethren has a rich history of service that it is called to celebrate and live out. Service Sunday is sponsored by the Service Ministries of the Church of the Brethren: Brethren Volunteer Service, Brethren Disaster Ministries, Brethren Service Center, and FaithX. Each year, the Service Sunday theme focuses on a different scripture passage. Congregations are encouraged to use the worship resources below in their planning for this Sunday.
