Service Sunday

2023 suggested date: February 5

Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?” That’s exactly what Jesus did. He didn’t make it easy for himself by avoiding people’s troubles, but waded right in and helped out.”

–Romans 15: 1-3a (The Message)

The Church of the Brethren’s Service Sunday is recognized annually the first Sunday in February. Congregations and leaders are asked to use this Sunday to recognize those who serve, or have served, in their local communities and throughout the world. The Church of the Brethren has a rich history of service that we are called to celebrate and continue to live out in the future. This Sunday is sponsored by the Service Ministries of the Church of the Brethren: Brethren Volunteer Service, FaithX, Brethren Disaster Ministries, and Brethren Service Center. Each year, the Service Sunday theme focuses on a different scripture passage. Congregations are encouraged to use the worship resources below in their planning for this Sunday.
