Project Description:

BVS is an organization within the Church of the Brethren that provides long-term service opportunities to people over the age of 18. Orientation Assistants with Brethren Volunteer Service provide leadership during orientation, assist with preparation and follow up for orientation, and help with administrative tasks in the BVS Office. Volunteers will work closely with BVS staff, and may have the opportunity to travel, recruit, and engage with past, future, and current volunteers.

Job Title: Orientation Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Orientation Assistant provides ongoing leadership during BVS orientation, assists with preparation for and follow-up after orientation, assists in BVS interpretation, participates in the BVS team, writes press releases, maintains a support system for current volunteers, conducts in- service retreats, publishes newsletters, and completes other administrative duties as needed. The volunteer also helps respond to verbal and written inquiries and maintains contact with applicants.

In addition, the Orientation Assistant may help with recruiting, including assisting with the promotion of BVS through recruitment trips to colleges and national, district, and congregational events. Other tasks may include advertising through display and print media, coordinating the use of promotional materials, managing the BVS social media accounts, and participating in the BVS team.

Requirements:

The volunteer should be at least 21 years old with a driver’s license and a prior completed BVS assignment. Other requirements include the ability to work with a diverse group of people, maintain confidentiality, flexibility, and computer knowledge. Skills in organizing, writing, photography, social media, and finance as well as a Brethren background are helpful.
