In honor of its 200th anniversary, Linville Creek Church of the Brethren in Broadway, Va., will have a celebration this weekend, reports the Daily News-Record on its DNROnline site.
Saturday activities include children’s crafts and games, special tours including a guided tour of the church’s historic and newly expanded cemetery at 11:30 a.m., lunch, a bake sale to raise money for National Youth Conference, s’mores, and a concert by the Linville Creek Praise Choir.
Sunday morning will feature worship at 10:30 a.m. followed by a covered dish luncheon.
“The Linville Creek Cemetery is full of history with an older section dating back almost 200 years,” said pastor Nathan Hollenberg in the online report. About the historical displays, he said, “We have several items that can be traced back to John Kline himself or from early church life at Linville Creek.”
The newspaper report highlights the church’s connection with Elder John Kline, a Brethren leader and martyr for peace during the Civil War era.
