By Janet Ober Lambert
Tara Hornbacker will lend her expertise as instructor for the course “Interim/Transitional Ministry: More than Maintenance,” offered by the Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership. This is an “asynchronous online” course taking place from July 31 through Sept. 24.
Hornbacker is professor emerita of Ministry Formation, Missional Leadership, and Evangelism at Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond, Ind. She is an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren and began teaching at Bethany in 1998. She is currently serving as interim senior pastor at New Carlisle (Ohio) Church of the Brethren.

This course will be a practical exploration of the gifts and challenges specific to interim/transitional ministry. Participants will explore the necessary tasks for successful interim/transitional ministry and the personality characteristics most helpful to develop for the practice of this specialized area of congregational leadership. Participants will examine the unique calling of people to walk with congregations in both simple interim and longterm intentional ministry situations.
This course is open to students in the Training in Ministry (TRIM) and Education for Shared Ministry (EFSM) programs of the academy; people needing continuing education credits (the course offers 2.0 continuing education units); and those who want to take the course for personal enrichment. Registration closes on June 16.
