Independent study unit offered alongside Ministers’ Association pre-Conference event

By Janet Ober Lambert

The Brethren Academy for Ministerial Leadership is offering a Directed Independent Study Unit (DISU) in conjunction with the Ministers’ Association pre-Annual Conference event titled “Healing Racial Trauma: The Road to Resilience” with Sheila Wise Rowe. The course will be offered July 3-4 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The DISU will incorporate the Ministers’ Association event as well as reading and class discussion before and after the event. Audrey Hollenberg-Duffey will serve as instructor. She is the new coordinator of English-Language Ministry Training Programs for the Brethren Academy. She also serves as a co-pastor with her spouse, Tim Hollenberg-Duffey, at Oakton Church of the Brethren in northern Virginia.

Please pray… For all who gather at the Ministers’ Association event prior to the 2023 Annual Conference of the Church of the Brethren. Give thanks for the leadership of Sheila Wise Rowe and the instruction provided by Audrey Hollenberg-Duffey.

Students who participate in this DISU will take Wise Rowe’s work and further apply it to their lives and their ministries. After completing this course, students will be able to:

— understand Wise Rowe’s articulation of racism, trauma, and resiliency;

— articulate the problem of racial trauma using faith-based language; and

— guide a conversation with a congregation who wishes to better understand the roots and problems of racial trauma.

For details about registration, the reading list, continuing education credit, and more go to https://bethanyseminary.edu/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Healing-Racial-Trauma-DISU-Brochure-2023.pdf

The registration deadline for this DISU has been extended to June 5.
