The Church of the Brethren’s Service Sunday is scheduled for Sunday, Feb 1. Service Sunday is recognized annually on the first Sunday in February.
The 2026 theme “Living with Purpose: Equipping God’s People for Works of Service” is inspired by the scripture text from Ephesians 4:11-13:

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (NIV).
The Service Ministries of the Church of the Brethren are sponsoring this special observance including Brethren Volunteer Service, FaithX, Brethren Disaster Ministries, and Children’s Disaster Services.
The Church of the Brethren has a rich history of service in the name of Christ, the Prince of Peace, that we are called to celebrate and continue to live out in the future. Congregations and leaders are asked to use Service Sunday to recognize those who have served in any of the sponsoring denominational ministries, as well as in the local community to share the peace and love of Christ with others.
Worship resources for Service Sunday include calls to worship, responsive reading, prayers, children’s activity/message, poems, hymn and song suggestions, sample reflections, bulletin inserts, and multilingual resources in Spanish and Haitian Creole as well as English.
