Fall Ventures series kicks off with course on ‘Preaching and Storytelling’

By Kendra Flory

The Ventures in Christian Discipleship program at McPherson (Kan.) College begins its 2025-2026 season with a course on “Preaching and Storytelling.”

The course will be presented by Dawn Ottoni-Wilhelm of the faculty of Bethany Theological Seminary and will be held online in two sessions on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and on Tuesday, Sept. 23, both at 6:30-8:30 p.m. (central time).

The Bible overflows with stories, Jesus loved to teach and preach with parables, and people enjoy listening to stories. Whether you delight in preaching with stories, are new to it or intimidated by the prospect of storytelling, all are welcome to learn about narrative preaching and the different ways that storytelling opens pathways to faithful imagination and prophetic witness.

Dawn Ottoni-Wilhelm is the Brightbill Professor of Preaching and Worship at Bethany Seminary in Richmond, Ind. She has published numerous essays and books on preaching, serves as senior editor of the journal Homiletic, and is currently vice president of the Academy of Homiletics. She and her spouse are members of Northview Church of the Brethren in Indianapolis. She enjoys sharing stories with their three adult children and their spouses, outdoor swimming, and singing–not at the same time.

Continuing education credit is available for $10 per course. The opportunity to pay for CEUs and give an optional donation to the Ventures program is available during the registration process.
