San Diego Peace Campus

San Diego, California

The San Diego First Church of the Brethren was founded over 100 years ago. Now at its third location, we are blessed with a large campus located in the Fairmont Park area situated conveniently off the 94, the 805 and the 15 freeways. We are happy to share our facilities with several ministries and non-profit groups that believe in seeking peace and justice, living simply, caring for the Earth and bringing people together.

Job Descriptions

Goals of organization: We are an open and affirming Christian community called by Christ to be inclusive, caring, and peace minded. We affirm that people of any race, ethnic identity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, economic status, faith tradition, or life situation are welcome in our congregation. Our church has built 4 buildings on our current site. The last one that was constructed is called the “Friends Center” and is a testimony to collaboration. The ongoing operation of the Friends Center is an amazing example of teamwork between our church, the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) US-Mexico Border Program, San Diego Friends Meeting (Quakers), and Peace Resource Center (PRC). It is an enduring physical and visual statement to advancing peace, social justice, sustainability, and spiritual growth.

Duties of position

  • Coordinate activities with church members, neighbors, partner agencies and local schools to strengthen and oversee a neighborhood community garden called the “Peace Garden”, the weekly “Friday Night Peace Venue”, and other community events that happen on our campus.
  • Oversee the onsite management of our resettlement efforts called “Welcoming Heart Ministry”
