Job Descriptions

SnowCap Food Pantry is a 52-year-old charity providing food and clothing to over 9,000 low-income neighbors each month. With over 1,000 volunteers, SnowCap’s roots began in the faith community of Multnomah County. SnowCap is a great fit for volunteers who love a fast-paced environment, having fun, and being part of something bigger than themselves. SnowCap seeks volunteers to take part in the charity’s mission and fulfill a variety of jobs as dictated by organizational need and the volunteer’s interests and abilities:

A) Client Services Worker: responsibilities include handling the daily intake and interview process of new clients, and working in the pantry, warehouse, clothing area, and garden. The volunteer may also assist with community outreach efforts, such as the Adopt-a-Family initiative, Holiday Toys, or Back-to-School project.

B) Pantry Worker: responsibilities include assisting with clients, volunteers, mobile food pantry, and pantry/donation intake processes. The volunteer may also assist with community outreach efforts, such as the Adopt-a-Family initiative, Holiday Toys, or Back-to-School project.

For both positions, strong communication, good problem-solving, quick decision-making, and strong people skills are essential, as the volunteer will serve people in distress, many of whom are from other cultures. Flexibility and willingness to learn will allow the volunteer to fill in where the work flow demands. Basic computer literacy, good attention to detail, a good driving record, and the ability to stand and walk for much of a shift and lift at least 40 pounds are preferred.

This project is connected to a Community House.
