Project Description:

CIS is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting human rights, social justice, and solidarity across borders. CIS is dedicated to supporting marginalized and vulnerable groups, including low-income communities, women, and youth through advocacy, education, and direct action. CIS often collaborates with local grassroots organizations to address root causes of poverty and inequality across Latin America.

Job Title:

(A) Grassroots Community Empowerment Assistant
(B) English Teacher Intern

Duties and Responsibilities:

Volunteers will focus on one or more of the following areas: women’s businesses, CIS youth formation and scholarship program, clean water and environment, and/or teaching English. Tasks may include transcribing evaluations, written translations, accompanying grassroots organizers, communication and social media, designing a database, and teaching English. Opportunities may also exist in other areas such as international election observation and fair-trade crafts.

Requirements:

Intermediate to advanced Spanish skills are required. No language is required for teaching English, but CIS strongly suggests taking Spanish classes with a half-price scholarship. Experience is preferred in one or more of the following areas: business administration, accounting, development, women’s rights, education, environment, translation, computers, and/or communications.
