Project Description:

Camp Mack is a summer camp and year-round retreat center located on the shore of Lake Waubee. Volunteers will have the opportunity to be trained in outdoor education, academic programs, lifeguarding, and more based on individual interests. They will also perform maintenance and housekeeping tasks as well as food service. Camp Mack is affiliated with the Church of the Brethren.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Camp Mack is looking for a self-starting volunteer who can serve in a variety of ways depending on need. Part of the time, the volunteer will work on the facility crew performing various maintenance and housekeeping tasks. At other times, the volunteer will assist with food service, preparing, serving, and cleaning up meals. Throughout the year, volunteers with a desire to directly impact guests may be trained in outdoor education, including facilitating the low ropes course and field initiatives, staffing the high ropes course, or teaching any number of academic programs for school groups and home-school students.

During the summer, the volunteer may be trained as a lifeguard or other program leader if they choose. This is a position that carries lots of wonderful opportunities to share God’s love, provide experiences in the natural world, and live in and build Christian community.

Requirements:

Requirements include a love of people and the outdoors; the ability to perform a wide variety of tasks with minimum supervision; a desire to contribute to, live in, and work in a supportive Christian community. The equivalent of two years of college is preferred. The volunteer must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds up to a distance of 100 feet. Opportunities for service will be determined by the variety of skills brought by the volunteer.
