Manchester Church of the Brethren in North Manchester, Ind., and the band Friends with the Weather are hosting another Sing Me Home gathering of music, spirituality, and social justice on the theme “Rooted and Rising.” Together, we’ll honor the people, stories, songs, and traditions that have shaped us while exploring how our roots give us courage to grow, change, and rise into the future.
Sing Me Home is a ministry now in its sixth year, and all are invited to this free community event on Sept. 26-27.
The Saturday, Sept. 26, line up features an Intergenerational Peace Camp from 1-5 p.m. and a Community Choir performing original compositions from David Hupp.
On Sunday, Sept. 27, an outdoor worship celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with speakers Sarah Nahar and Jonathan Brenneman. Nahar teaches in the University of Michigan’s Program in the Environment and is a nonviolent action trainer and theologian. Previously, she worked at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center in Atlanta, Ga., and was executive director of Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT). Brenneman is a Palestinian American and co-founder of Christians for a Free Palestine. He was an activist with Community Peacemaker Teams.
