The following poem by Deborah Slone was submitted by pastor Larry Oneill of New Covenant Church of the Brethren in Atlantic Southeast District. He is serving this year as moderator of the district and as staff for English Speaking Ministry.
He wrote to Newsline that on a recent Sunday he was blessed to lead a Service of Licensing at Celebration of Christ Church of the Brethren in St. Petersburg for Slone and for Dale Posthumus, who is now chair of the district board.
“That alone is reason for great joy,” he wrote, adding that Slone has been a deacon for many years, Leads the Women’s Fellowship, and has shared her poetry widely in the district. The following poem was written in 1981, he wrote, but Slone “has followed the ‘Servants Heart’ ever since.”
A Servant’s Prayer
Oh Lord, give me peace that my mind might rest.
Help me Father to do my best!
Let Jesus in my life shine forth for Thee.
All I do Father, is for Your glory not for me.
Thank you for your loving care.
That where Jesus is I may someday be there.

Jesus died that I might be free.
Free in Jesus I want only to live my life for Thee.
I count myself but nothing without your power and grace.
Come soon sweet Jesus, that I may see your wonderful face.
I praise you for the privilege I have been given.
Only in you Lord, is this life worth living.
