The first Brethren baptisms in America were held on Christmas Day 1723 in the Wissahickon Creek in Philadelphia. On the 300th anniversary of that event, West Shore Church of the Brethren held a baptism in the Conodoguinet Creek in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, Pa.
Miller Masson, a college senior and a new believer, was baptized by pastor Keith Nonemaker. Pastor Beth Nonemaker led the service. God granted a balmy 53-degree day, although the water was considerably colder. About 25 people attended, including Masson’s family and friends. Nine members of West Shore Church were present to welcome Brother Miller into membership.
