McPherson Hires Thomas Hurst as Campus Minister


McPherson (Kan.) College has announced that Thomas Hurst has accepted the position of campus minister. A life-long member of the Church of the Brethren, Hurst comes to McPherson from Westminster, Md., where he is currently working as Mid-Atlantic Regional Field Manager for AFS Intercultural Programs. As a manager he secures family and school placements for international students as well as securing US students to travel overseas for educational experiences.

Hurst also has worked as executive director for On Earth Peace, pastor of Downsville Church of the Brethren in Williamsport, Md., and as an area representative for Heifer International.

Hurst received his bachelor’s degree from Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind., with a degree in sociology, and went on to complete a master’s degree from Ohio University in American Government and Foreign Policy. He completed coursework at Bethany Theological Seminary in 2003-04, and holds a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Temple University.

Hurst and his family will relocate to McPherson this summer, and he will begin his duties at McPherson College in mid-July.
