Disaster grants go to continuing hurricane response and COVID-19 response (April 9, 2020)

In recent weeks the Church of the Brethren’s Emergency Disaster Fund (EDF) has disbursed several grants, directed by the Brethren Disaster Ministries staff. The largest are helping to continue hurricane response efforts in Puerto Rico ($150,000), the Carolinas ($40,500), and the Bahamas ($25,000). Grants for COVID-19 response are going to Honduras (two grants for $20,000 and $4,000), the Democratic Republic of Congo ($15,000), and South Sudan ($4,000). Latest Brethren grants from the EDF and GFI are announced (July 20, 2017)

The latest grants from two Church of the Brethren funds--the Emergency Disaster Fund (EDF) and the Global Food Initiative (GFI)--have been given to Brethren Disaster Ministries work following flooding in the area of Columbia, S.C.; the church’s mission in South Sudan, where staff are responding to needs of people affected by the country’s civil war; the Shalom Ministry for Reconciliation in the Democratic Republic of Congo serving people affected by conflict; and community gardens related to Church of the Brethren congregations. Stepping over to Sudan

One of the projects listed there was RECONCILE, an organization that works to rebuild war-torn communities in South Sudan. RECONCILE’s emphasis on civic education and social transformation seemed to make it a perfect match.... So after completing her BVS orientation, Jillian Foerster packed her bags for a two-year term with RECONCILE.
