Eric Miller began Oct. 19 as the new executive director of Camp Swatara, a Church of the Brethren camp and outdoor ministry center near Bethel, Pa.
“Following an extensive search process led by the Executive Director Search Committee, the Board is excited to welcome Eric into this important leadership role,” said an announcement from the camp. “He brings a strong background in nonprofit management, organizational leadership, and Christian ministry, along with a lifelong personal connection to Camp Swatara.”
Miller grew up attending family camp at Camp Swatara and later served two summers on the counseling staff, said the release. Miller holds a doctorate in anthropology, has spent 16 years living and working in China, has a decade of experience managing study abroad programs, and previously served as executive director of Global Mission for the Church of the Brethren. Most recently, he was executive director of DreamWrights Center for Community Arts in York, Pa.
The camp board also expressed gratitude for the seven years of leadership and service provided by former executive director Tim Courtright. “His creativity, innovative spirit, dedication, and servant’s heart have made a meaningful contribution to Camp Swatara’s ministry. Alongside the faithful commitment of staff, volunteers, donors, churches, and supporters, Tim’s leadership has helped Camp Swatara grow, embrace new possibilities, and prepare for the opportunities ahead.”
