The Church of the Brethren’s Part-Time Pastor; Full-Time Church program will sponsor Practicing the Way: The Scripture Practice this fall for multi-vocational pastors.
What is the Scripture Practice?

In Practicing the Way, a book by John Mark Comer, readers are introduced to nine spiritual practices—Sabbath, Solitude, Scripture, Prayer, Fasting, Generosity, Community, Service, and Witness—that help followers of Jesus “be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do as he did.” This cohort will focus on exploring and practicing the spiritual discipline of Scripture.
The library of books we call the Bible has the power to connect us with God and transform our lives. Yet distraction, hurry, and confusion can hinder our experience of these ancient texts. Together, participants will rediscover ways to engage Scripture as apprentices of Jesus.
What to expect
The Scripture Practice includes four sessions featuring video teaching, discussion, prayer, weekly exercises, readings, and additional resources designed to help participants develop life-giving rhythms as apprentices of Jesus.
The four sessions are:
- Read
- Meditate
- Study
- Memorize
Each session lasts approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Sessions will meet on Tuesday evenings—September 15, 22, 29, and October 6—beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern / 4 p.m. Pacific.
Register by Wednesday, September 9, by completing the online registration form.
