Children’s Disaster Services (CDS), a program of Brethren Disaster Ministries, has deployed to western Washington State following catastrophic atmospheric river flooding that began on Dec. 8.
CDS is partnering with Child Life Disaster Relief and Save the Children to serve children in shelters where there is need, providing a calm, safe, and healing environment for children whose lives have been upended by the rising waters.
This weather event brought heavy rainfall, causing rivers such as the Skagit, Snohomish, and Nooksack to reach record levels. Up to 100,000 residents were under evacuation orders in areas like Pierce, Snohomish, and Skagit counties.
