Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center offers workshop on Love Feast basics

“Love Feast: Past, Present, and Future” led by Denise Kettering-Lane will be held on Friday, March 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Eastern time) at Cross Keys Village in New Oxford, Pa. This free event sponsored by the Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center (SVMC) is in-person only. Continuing education credit is available for the fee of $10.

“Get back to Love Feast basics with Dr. Denise Kettering-Lane, Associate Professor of Brethren Studies at Bethany Theological Seminary,” said an announcement. “As you prepare for Love Feast this year, root yourself in the historical practices of the Brethren, and explore what new and exciting ways Love Feast can be adapted or revitalized in your own congregation.”

The event is offered in three sessions, all on the same day, with lunch included (lunch is limited to the first 25 registrants):

Session 1, “What is Love Feast?” will be held in the Chapel, Nicarry Meetinghouse, and will review the Love Feast elements of preparation, feetwashing, a shared meal, and communion, and will discuss changes in how these elements have been lived out over the years.

“Lunch and Learn for Pastors and Deacons” (11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.) will be held in the Board Room, Nicarry Meetinghouse, when participants will have the opportunity to discuss strategies for encouraging Love Feast within their congregations and consider strategies for adapting or revitalizing the practice.

Session 2, “What does Love Feast look like?” will be held in the Board Room, Nicarry Meetinghouse, and will discuss how Love Feast can look different in different congregations and contexts. It will emphasize different practical aspects of Love Feast and demonstrate some practices, such as feetwashing.
