Jose Rudy Amaya, a member of Conexion Pasadena (Calif.) Church of the Brethren, began June 1 as the first associate district executive minister intern for the Church of the Brethren’s Pacific Southwest District. “The internship is designed to expose the intern to the variety of work that is part of serving as a middle judicatory staff person,” said the district announcement.
The district plan calls for about 60 hours per month of work, 12 to 15 hours per week on average, in the position. The initial contract is for 6 months, with the opportunity to renew that up to 2 additional terms.
Born and raised in El Salvador, it was during his time at CHET (the training center for the Iglesia del Pacto–Covenant Church) that Amaya met Rodrigo Zapata and began to attend Principe de Paz Church of the Brethren. He has been a part of the Church of the Brethren for the last 20 years. His volunteer work in the district has included service as a member of the district Nominating Committee.
He holds a certificate in theology from CHET and a Church Ministry certificate from Hope International University.
