A release from On Earth Peace, by Jennifer K. Scarr and Tamera Shaw
The On Earth Peace board of directors held its fall 2024 meeting on Oct. 26, marking just over six months since the implementation of our new board meeting structure. Over the past year, we have welcomed several new members to the board, and as a result, we dedicated intentional time to getting to know each other better. We reflected on the valuable pieces of advice that have supported our growth and shared the safe spaces that have helped us connect with ourselves.
During our meeting, we heard brief reports from our committee chairs and reached consensus on updates to two important personnel policies: the Sexual and Identity Harassment Policy and the Grievance Policy. These changes are part of a broader series of updates to our personnel policy handbook.
A significant portion of our time was dedicated to electing new leadership for the board. Our current co-chairs, Jennifer K. Scarr and Tamera Shaw, will be cycling out of their co-chair roles at the end of the year. The leadership selection process included small group reflections and a consensus process. We are excited to announce the election of Laura Hay and Beverly Sayers Eikenberry as our new co-chairs, starting in 2025.
This leadership transition marks the first pairing in our new staggered-term co-chair leadership model. The staggered-term process is intended to ensure continuity and prevent a complete turnover in leadership with each calling process.
As we approach the end of our 50th anniversary year, we are filled with gratitude for all we have accomplished and energized for the work ahead. In reflection of this anniversary, we heard a report highlighting the incredible programs that On Earth Peace’s staff, interns, and fellows have worked on. We are excited about the future and the continued impact of On Earth Peace for the next 50 years and beyond.
— Jennifer K. Scarr and Tamera Shaw have served as co-chairs of the board of On Earth Peace.
