Mission Advocates networking session open to those wanting to learn more about mission

By Carole Davenport

Want to actively support the Church of the Brethren in mission? Come to the Mission Advocates Networking Meeting at the 2024 Annual Conference! The session will be Saturday, July 6, at 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Amway Kendall Room. Light refreshments will be available.

The Global Mission office is seeking to make a fresh start for its Mission Advocates program. The networking session will offer the opportunity to meet other Brethren with a deep heart for mission; learn about the “Vision for a Global Mission Church of the Brethren” mission philosophy paper, adopted at the 2018 Annual Conference; brainstorm ideas about the how the Mission Advocates program can be revived to support mission work in 2024 and beyond; and sign up to become a Mission Advocate in your church or organization.

The purpose of the Mission Advocate program is to equip Church of the Brethren districts and congregations to promote and invigorate mission efforts at individual, congregational, and district levels. Stay abreast of Church of the Brethren activities worldwide. We need people in each congregation to help promote the mission work of our church!

Responsibilities of the Global Mission office include sending regular mission updates to Mission Advocates in districts and congregations including prayer requests, stories from the mission field, and opportunities for involvement. The office will keep an active list of all Mission Advocates.

Responsibilities of the Mission Advocates for districts include informing the district of mission updates through district newsletters, websites, conferences, and other avenues, and helping to recruit and resource Mission Advocates in each congregation throughout the district.

Responsibilities of the Mission Advocates for congregations include informing the congregation of mission updates, serving as an advocate for funding of Church of the Brethren missions, encouraging congregation members to consider mission service opportunities, leading prayer efforts and other engagement opportunities in the congregation, and when available, hosting mission workers in the congregation for speaking or other engagement opportunities.
