Church anniversaries celebrate significant years of ministry in communities

Among Church of the Brethren congregations celebrating significant milestone anniversaries this fall are Summit Church of the Brethren in Bridgewater, Va., and Midland (Mich.) Church of the Brethren.

“Summit Church of the Brethren is turning 150 years old!” said an invitation to “save the date and join us on September 15, 2024 for a time of worship and celebration.”

Midland Church of the Brethren announced that for its 100th anniversary “we will be holding our Celebration Service on Sunday, October 13, 2024.” The church has been having special events each month leading up to the Celebration Service as well.

LeAnn Hadley, a board member and Centennial Committee member at Midland, also shared some details about the beginning of the church: January 17, 1924 – First official meeting for the purpose of organizing a Sunday School and church services; there were 16 people present at the meeting in Brother George Martin’s home. June 15, 1924 – This was the church’s first revival meeting, led by Brother S. J. Burger from Auburn, Ind. June 15, 1924 – Members of the church met to organize and decide on the name First Church of the Brethren of Midland. There were 24 members present.
