Brethren Invited to Join March to End Iraq War

(Jan. 19, 2007) — Brethren have been invited to join in a March on Washington to End the Iraq War, to take place in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 27. The invitation was extended by the Brethren Witness/Washington Office of the General Board, and by On Earth Peace. In an e-mail to its Peace Witness Action List, On Earth Peace invited members to join with a Brethren group being organized by the Brethren Witness/Washington Office.

“Join fellow members of the Church of the Brethren on January 27th along with thousands of others from across the United States to send a message to Congress and the current administration that now is the time to act,” said the Action Alert from the Brethren Witness/Washington Office. “Now is the time to withdrawal our troops from Iraq. In the November 7th elections Americans made clear to Congress that they want change when it comes to Iraq. On January 27th, Americans will take action to call Congress into accountability by demanding the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.”

The alert quoted from a resolution about the war in Iraq made last summer by the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference (for the text of the resolution go to www.brethren.org/ac/ac_statements/2006IraqWarResolution.pdf).

Church of the Brethren members and friends are invited to meet at Washington City Church of the Brethren, home of the Brethren Witness/Washington Office, 337 North Carolina Ave. SE, at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m. the group will assemble at the National Mall at 3rd St., along with all march participants for a rally before the march starts. The march is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
