From the Atlantic Northeast District newsletter
Across the United States, immigrant and refugee families are living in fear while facing increasing violence, detention, deportation, and dehumanizing rhetoric. These actions are impacting not only undocumented immigrants, but also legally present refugees, asylum seekers, green card holders, and naturalized citizens.
Yet across the country, communities are rising up in response—defending welcome, compassion, and the belief that every person deserves dignity and protection.

This June, as we honor World Refugee Day and Immigrant Heritage Month, we invite you to Rise Up for Refuge with Church World Service (CWS) Pennsylvania.
We’ll be kicking things off with a day-long event on June 20 and invite you to join CWS Lancaster and communities of conscience across central Pennsylvania for a powerful gathering. The gathering takes place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren.
We’ll start the day with inspiring stories and celebrate victories from refugees and immigrant neighbors. We’ll then join together in interactive breakout sessions focused on concrete actions to protect our neighbors and advance justice, and connect with others to develop clear plans for ongoing advocacy and meaningful engagement in your community.
Our goal is for this to be more than a one-day event: together we’ll collaborate to develop concrete plans for continued engagement.
Together, we rise. Together, we act.
We hope you’ll join this growing movement working to ensure that every refugee and immigrant is welcomed with dignity and opportunity.
