Deportation Defense Response Team encourages generous support for Haitian church members

From the Deportation Defense Response Team

In this time in which many of our Haitian sisters and brothers no longer have valid work permits due to the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, it is more important than ever that the church give generously to the Legal and Mutual Aid Fund. This fund directly supports our Haitian Church of the Brethren members in the US, among others.

We urge you to take up an offering to support this fund, as this will allow church members to access legal assistance and basic necessities in this time of great need and uncertainty.

Congregations needing financial help for church members facing personal and legal expenses related to immigration, asylum, or related processes may apply for grants from the fund by contacting ddrcobcoordinator@gmail.com or 561-647-8981 to receive the application form.

The Legal and Mutual Aid Fund is described at the top of the Deportation Defense Response webpage at www.brethren.org/intercultural/ddr, where there is a link to donate online. Checks can be sent to the Church of the Brethren’s Atlantic Southeast District with “DDR” in the memo line, mail to Atlantic Southeast District, 64954 Orchard Dr., Goshen, IN 46526. Legal and Mutual Aid Fund donations sent to On Earth Peace or to Atlantic Southeast District are designated funds and do not contribute to those organizations’ annual budget needs.
