From Brethren Disaster Ministries
Friday, June 20, is World Refugee Day. Please consider taking some time in your worship spaces this month to talk about refugees, to pray for their situations, and to honor their stories.
A refugee is someone who flees home and country owing to “a well-founded fear of persecution because of his/her race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.”
Church World Service (CWS, cwsglobal.org) has collected resources from various faith denominations on migration and displacement, including prayers and liturgies, discussion guides, Sunday school lessons, youth group guides, and ideas for action that put faith into motion. Go to https://cwsglobal.org/cws-faith-leaders.
Our hope is that you might use these resources to mark World Refugee Day in your congregations, homes, and other special spaces–and continue to use them as you discover how to express love for all of God’s people who are displaced from their homes.
Learn more about advocacy for refugees at a time when the US administration has instituted a near total refugee ban and a funding freeze for support for refugees already admitted into the US at https://cwsglobal.org/action-alerts/take-action-this-world-refugee-day-urge-congress-to-defend-refuge.
