Marcia Sowles has joined the Church of the Brethren’s Office of Peacebuilding and Policy in Washington, D.C., volunteering as a Policy and Governmental Affairs associate. She will primarily focus on immigration policy by also providing legal expertise on related issues.
Sowles has a bachelor’s from Manchester College—now Manchester University—in North Manchester, Ind., where she graduated in 1972 with a degree in history and mathematics; a Juris Doctor degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana (1975); and a Master of Laws (L.L.M) from Yale Law School (1980). From September 1987 to Jan. 3, 2025, she was a trial attorney with the Civil Division of the US Department of Justice, where she represented federal agencies in litigation. She was a trial attorney with the US Department of Energy from 1980 to 1987 and an attorney with the Legal Services Program of Northern Indiana from 1975 to 1979.
