From the Pastoral Compensation and Benefits Advisory Committee
The Pastoral Compensation and Benefits Advisory Committee is seeking input from ministers about their experience of taking time for sabbath renewal. As the committee reviews the current denominational paper, “Guidelines for Sabbath Rest,” they are eager to learn from ministers, whether fulltime, parttime, multi-vocational, or non-compensated. How are they practicing sabbath? What are the obstacles to taking time for sabbath renewal, whether a regular practice or a formal sabbatical?
A new webpage focused on sabbath renewal has been created and is available here: www.brethren.org/ministryoffice/sabbath. Visit the page to find the link to a survey seeking input from ministers. The survey is available in English and Spanish and will be offered soon in Haitian Creole.
Also posted is a brief video about the value of sabbath renewal that features Angela Finet, pastor and author of the new Covenant Bible Study from Brethren Press titled Sabbath: God’s Call to Peace (purchase at www.brethrenpress.com/product_p/9780871783769.htm). In this video, Finet shares about her recent experience of sabbath rest and the refreshment she experienced during time away from ministerial responsibilities. Her sabbath rest experience followed careful preparation and planning with her congregation.
The committee welcomes input and participation from all ministers in the survey. To share questions or comments, contact the committee by email to officeofministry@brethren.org.
