Brethren Press offers pre-publication discount on new Anabaptist Community Bible

The Bible has sustained Anabaptist faith for 500 years–and now a new Anabaptist Community Bible invites Brethren and others who are part of the Anabaptist movement to read scripture with fresh eyes and discover how key Anabaptist themes are woven throughout the Bible.

This new Bible is a part of the “Anabaptism at 500” project led by MennoMedia, celebrating five centuries since Jan. 21, 1525, when a small group of Christians secretly gathered in Zurich, Switzerland, renounced their baptism as infants, and received baptism as adults. It marked the beginning of the Anabaptist movement that continues today in the form of the Amish, Hutterites, Mennonites, Church of the Brethren, and many other related groups.

Brethren Press is taking pre-publication orders for the Anabaptist Community Bible, to be available in January 2025. The pre-publication discount is good through Oct. 15. Go to www.brethrenpress.com.

A unique feature of this new Bible is the more than 7,200 marginal notes offered alongside commentary from Anabaptist scholars (in the form of scholarly introductions for each book and biblical context) and historical notes from the Anabaptist tradition. Insights from nearly 600 Bible study groups have been incorporated, including a good number of Church of the Brethren groups. This combination of community reflections alongside scholarly commentary models the Anabaptist approach to reading scripture in community, and the Anabaptist call to follow Jesus in word and deed. Those who pick up this new Bible are invited to experience a renewed engagement with scripture as the text is encountered in conversation with a larger community of believers.

The Anabaptist Community Bible uses the Common English Bible (CEB) translation and is printed in large 10-point font size for the biblical text and 8.5-point font size for the notes. It includes:
— a unique set of marginal and scholarly notes,
— 40 original linocut illustrations,
— a 365-day Bible reading plan,
— suggestions for group Bible study,
— essays on Anabaptist hermeneutics and the Apocrypha, among other topics,
— full-color Oxford maps,
— timelines, tables of weights and measures, and more information to help understand the biblical world, and
— a presentation page for giving the Bible as a gift.
