2: [enters and goes over to 1] What’s so funny?
1: Oh, I’m just driving my cat crazy. Watch—when I flick the laser pointer around, it goes bonkers.
2: Ha! It’s climbing the wall!
1: You should have seen what it did when I moved the laser around on my brother’s leg!
2: Cats sure can be goofy, eh?
1: Yeah, I love him, but he’s not always the smartest little furball.
2: Although…
1: Although what?
2: Don’t you ever feel like that sometimes?
1: Like a cat? I’m not really in the habit of licking myself.
2: No, no. But … well, sometimes I feel like I’m doing that whole laser pointer routine.
1: You chase your tail and climb up the walls when you see something move?
2: C’mon, get serious. I’m not talking like I have nine lives or tuna cravings here, but…
1: But…
2: Well, sometimes I feel like I’m chasing something I can never quite get hold of, you know?
1: Huh. Well, yeah, I guess I kind of get that.
2: Like, I’m always hearing at church how God’s right there for me, and that people feel God walking with them and calling them to do this or that, but … I have trouble feeling God’s really there. It’s like I’m chasing that feeling, but my paws keep coming up empty.
1: Cat metaphor.
2: Yeah. Maybe they’re not so goofy after all.
1: I get it. They say about how we can pray to God, and God listens and all that, but a lot of times it just feels like one big game of hide and seek. I believe, I really do, but …
2: Exactly. It’s hard when you can’t lay your hands on something. Sometimes I can kind of feel it, but other times it feels so, so …
1: So far away?
2: Yeah.
1: [Sigh] Maybe we’re chasing the wrong light.
2: What do you mean?
1: Well, instead of just doing all the things people tell us we should do or have to do, maybe it’s really about finding God inside ourselves, you know? Maybe the light’s not “out there” but in here [taps chest].
2: That whole “Seek and you will find” thing?
1: Maybe.
2: Sometimes faith makes my head hurt.
1: Yeah, and all this thinking is making me hungry. Want a snack?
2: Sure. All of a sudden I could go for some tuna.
