“Does not wisdom call
and understanding raise her voice?
On the heights, beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries out:
‘To you, O people, I call,and my cry is to all who live….’
I love those who love me,
and those who seek me diligently find me.”
– Proverbs 8:1-4 and 17 (NRSVue)
Activity
Read the whole of Proverbs 8, with attention to how wisdom is personified. In verses 22-31, the poet imagines wisdom being there as God creates the world, at play in the new creation. Draw on paper, or in your mind’s eye, a picture of what this personage wisdom might look like.
