Quotes of the day

“We’ll hate to see you go.” — Overheard at a convention center concessions stand, as a server expressed appreciation for the Brethren and their friendliness during the Conference

“It’s amazing how the congregation is touched by one person making a difference. Everyone grows.” — One of the delegates who shared how their congregations are continuing the work of Jesus, during a time for conversation with the moderator this morning. He spoke about new energy for mission that was sparked by one church member’s concern for the health of women in Haiti, that led to the Midwives for Haiti program.

“I have had the time of my life this year.” — Moderator Tim Harvey as he started his closing comments on his experience as moderator of Annual Conference

“I know grammar teachers aren’t going to like this, but, you done good!” — A member of the moderator’s home congregation, Central Church of the Brethren in Roanoke, Va., to Harvey during a time for recognizing his service to the denomination

By the numbers

417 backpacks full of school supplies, and 40 additional boxes of supplies were received during a Sunday morning offering and additional day’s collections. The offering of supplies for St. Louis schools was the Conference service project and an outreach and witness to the host community. The additional boxes are estimated to be enough to fill another 600 backpacks, making a total of more than 1,000 backpacks’ worth of supplies donated by Brethren to the children of St. Louis.
