{"id":9795,"date":"2015-03-18T00:00:41","date_gmt":"2015-03-18T00:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.brethren.org\/news\/?p=9795"},"modified":"2018-11-03T20:23:50","modified_gmt":"2018-11-03T20:23:50","slug":"resolution-on-christian-minority-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/2015\/resolution-on-christian-minority-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Resolution on Christian Minority Communities\u2019 Adopted by Board, Recommended to Annual Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The denomination\u2019s Mission and Ministry Board has approved a \u201cResolution on Christian Minority Communities\u201d and recommended it to the 2015 Annual Conference for adoption.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution, adopted without discussion, focuses on \u201cthe destruction of Christian communities in regions where Christians are targeted as religious minorities,\u201d citing Romans 12:5, \u201cWe, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another,\u201d and Galatians 6:10, \u201cSo then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we are deeply concerned about the persecution of religious minorities regardless of religion or tradition, we feel a distinct call to speak out on behalf of those who are brothers and sisters in the body of Christ,\u201d the resolution says, in part.<\/p>\n<p>Areas where Christian communities are suffering severe persecution, are rapidly diminishing, or are in danger of disappearing altogether include northeast Nigeria, other areas of north Africa, and the Middle East particularly Palestine and Israel, Iraq, and Syria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, in this year commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide,\u201d the document states, \u201cwe reaffirm our commitment to stand with targeted minority groups across the world and call not only for increased awareness of their persecution, but for renewed efforts by the church and the international community to build solidarity and protect minority religious groups who are under threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resolution identifies seven steps for Brethren to take in response:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; praying for sisters and brothers in Christ across the globe;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; learning about the experience of Christians in places of persecution and conflict;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; extending expressions of love and support to those communities;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; committing to participate in interfaith dialogue and peace initiatives;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; supporting advocacy efforts of the church in places where it is in danger of disappearing;<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; developing relationships with Muslim and other religious communities in the US in an effort for mutual understanding;
