Church of the Brethren musicians Andy and Terry Murray have announced the release of a CD version of their first recording featuring the first theme song for a National Youth Conference, \u201cSummertime Children.\u201d<\/strong> The song was introduced at NYC in Glorieta, N.M., in 1974. The 40th anniversary of that conference, along with continuing requests for some of the songs, prompted the Murrays to undertake the project, said a release.<\/p>\n The CD was duplicated from a digital master made by Geoff Brumbaugh at Common Ground Audio from the original Nashville Studio mix tapes. It uses the photography from the original vinyl album and contains a six-page foldout with the lyrics to all of the songs.<\/p>\n In addition to the title song, \u201cSummertime Children,\u201d the album includes \u201cThe Ballad of John Kline,\u201d \u201cCowboy Dan,\u201d \u201cThe Great Botetourt Bus-Truck Race,\u201d and Earle Fike\u2019s descant for \u201cAmazing Grace.\u201d Other songs include \u201cTo Be Free,\u201d \u201cA Christmas Carol,\u201d \u201cGrowing Old,\u201d and a sung version of the 23rd Psalm. Joel Yoder, Nancy Yoder, Alice Brown, Bill Zimmerer, Kim Hershberger, Karl Honsaker, and Miriam Smith provided background vocals and a live studio audience for the recording.<\/p>\n \u201cWe did the whole thing from first rehearsal to final mix in six hours,\u201d Andy says of the recording, \u201cso it is pretty raw in places. But it has a freshness and spirit that bring back sweet memories and it is enduring evidence of my hillbilly accent. The physical CD is a little replica of the original vinyl, so that adds to the retro feel.\u201d<\/p>\n
