A summary of the Nigeria Crisis Response work carried out in 2016 has been provided to Newsline by coordinator Roxane Hill. The Nigeria Crisis Response is a joint effort of the Church of the Brethren and Ekklesiyar Yan\u2019uwa a Nigeria (EYN, the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria). The Church of the Brethren\u2019s Global Mission and Service and Brethren Disaster Ministries are both involved in the effort.<\/p>\n

The following summary covers the year through November and includes tallies of accomplishments in the seven areas of focus.<\/p>\n

2016 Nigeria Crisis Summary through November (total $1,525,082)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Home Repair and Rebuilding<\/strong>
\n— 30 new units with kitchens and toilets
\n— provided water sources and 2 solar powered pumps
\n— 260 homes re-roofed in 4 zones<\/p>\n

Peace Building and Trauma Recovery<\/strong>
\n— 18 basic workshops
\n— 3 advanced workshops
\n— 3 \u201cTraining of Trainers\u201d
\n— leaders sent to Rwanda for Alternatives to Violence Program
\n— 2 Healing and Rebuilding our Community Workshops held in Maiduguri and Damaturu
\n— training for 14 women\u2019s leaders by Children\u2019s Disaster Service
\n— 8 Children\u2019s Trauma Workshops, with 75 people trained<\/p>\n

Agriculture and Community Development<\/strong>
\n— 6 leaders attended ECHO conference
\n— 5 leaders attended a soybean innovation lab in Ghana
\n— goat trial project started for 10 workers
\n— vaccinations for 10,000 chickens
\n— seeds and fertilizer to 8,500 families<\/p>\n

Livelihoods<\/strong>
\n— 2 women\u2019s projects for 200 widows and orphans
\n— empowered 587 families to established their own businesses
\n— 3 Skills Acquisition Centers provided training and businesses for 152 widows and orphans<\/p>\n

Education<\/strong>
\n— Kulp Bible College renovations\/repairs
\n— EYN Comprehensive Secondary School wall built for security
\n— school fees paid for 420 students
\n— 120 orphans housed, fed, and provided with schooling
\n— 3 learning centers providing schooling for 2,180 students<\/p>\n

Food, Medical, and Home Supplies<\/strong>
\n— 35 distributions to 12,500 families
\n— medical assistance at 19 locations serving 5,000 people
\n— medical refresher course held for 16 dispensary workers<\/p>\n

EYN Strengthening<\/strong>
\n— Unity House in Jos furnished
\n— Kwarhi staff housing and offices repaired
\n— EYN Conference Center repaired
\n— conference assistance for Majalisa (EYN\u2019s annual conference), Peace Conference for pastors, Minister\u2019s Conference, etc.
\n— devotional materials printed
\n— joint workcamp with EYN and 9 American volunteers to build a church for displaced persons<\/p>\n
