Bethany Seminary is offering four graduate-level courses during the spring 2013 semester that may be of interest to the occasional student, those interested in taking courses without enrolling in a degree program. The courses are offered as weekend intensives.<\/p>\n

Two special topic courses will meet at the Bethany Seminary campus in Richmond, Ind.:<\/p>\n

—\u00a0“Music in the Church”<\/strong> with instructor Shawn Kirchner, on Feb. 8-9, April 19-20, and May 3-4<\/p>\n

—\u00a0“Faith, Fiction, and Philosophy”<\/strong> with instructor and Bethany president Ruthann Knechel Johansen, on Feb. 15-16, March 15-16, and April 12-13. An exploration of the theological-philosophical questions of grace, justice, charity, and peace through two 20th-century women writers: American author Flannery O\u2019Connor and the French philosopher and social activist Simone Weil.<\/p>\n

The following courses will be offered through the Susquehanna Valley Ministry Center and may be counted toward licensing\/ordination requirements. For more information contact your district executive:<\/p>\n

—\u00a0“Brethren Polity and Practice”<\/strong> with instructor Warren Eshbach, on Feb. 1-2 and 22-23, and March 8-9 and 22-23, at Elizabethtown (Pa.) College<\/p>\n

—\u00a0“Congregational Ministry and Leadership for an Emerging Church”<\/strong> with instructor Randy Yoder, on March 1-2 and 15-16, and April 12-13 and 26-27, at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa.<\/p>\n

The application deadline for the spring semester is Dec. 1. Interested persons may apply online as occasional students, which also requires submission of all official transcripts, a one-page essay, and a $50 application fee. The cost of each class is $1,329.
