{"id":5290,"date":"2012-09-05T00:00:45","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T00:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.brethren.org\/news\/?p=5290"},"modified":"2018-11-03T20:18:09","modified_gmt":"2018-11-03T20:18:09","slug":"top-10-favorite-hymns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/2012\/top-10-favorite-hymns\/","title":{"rendered":"Top 10 Favorite Hymns from &#8216;Hymnal: A Worship Book.&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>At Annual Conference in July, Brethren Press sponsored a hymn sing celebrating the 20th anniversary of \u201cHymnal: A Worship Book.\u201d Nancy Faus-Mullen, who chaired the committee that put together the hymnal on behalf of Brethren Press and the Mennonite publishing house, led the event. In preparation, she and a team that included Haley Goodwin and Douglas Archer surveyed a number of Brethren to find out what hymns from the 1992 hymnal are most loved by those who sing from it in worship. Although it was not a scientific survey, the results are interesting. More survey findings and the group\u2019s reflection on the survey may appear in a future issue of \u201cMessenger\u201d magazine.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-5291\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/a-flyer-celebrating-the.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/a-flyer-celebrating-the.jpg 445w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/a-flyer-celebrating-the-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/>Top 10 favorite hymns from the 1992 \u201cHymnal: A Worship Book\u201d:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. \u201cIn the Bulb There Is a Flower,\u201d #614<br \/>\n2. \u201cAmazing Grace,\u201d #143<br \/>\n3. \u201cBlessed Assurance,\u201d #332<br \/>\n4. \u201cGreat Is Thy Faithfulness,\u201d #327<br \/>\n5. \u201cHere I Am, Lord,\u201d #395<br \/>\n6. \u201cWhen Peace Like a River,\u201d #336<br \/>\n7. \u201cPraise God from Whom,\u201d #118<br \/>\n8. \u201cMove in Our Midst,\u201d #418<br \/>\n9. \u201cHere in This Place,\u201d #6<br \/>\n10. \u201cWonderful Grace of Jesus,\u201d #150<\/p>\n<p>Of the top 10 hymns, one (#418) is totally a Brethren hymn, written by a Brethren text writer, Kenneth Morse, and a Brethren tune writer, Perry Huffaker.<\/p>\n<p>Five of the hymns are in a hymnal produced by the Church of the Brethren for the first time: #614, #395, #118, #6, #150.
