(Find a photo album from the block party at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluemelon.com\/churchofthebrethren\/sundayjuly22\">www.bluemelon.com\/churchofthebrethren\/sundayjuly22<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of the Brethren Block Party was to make people aware of all the different organizations across the denomination and what they do,\u201d said Trevor, a member of the National Youth Cabinet that helped plan the activity.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, ice cream is a staple when Brethren youth hang out. More than 1,600 cups of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream and 100 popsicles were served.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe goal was to get youth and advisors to mix with one another on a Sunday afternoon. Photo by Laura Brown.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Games and booths<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Bethany Seminary<\/strong>\u00a0had a golfing game, a huge Connect 4, a ring toss, corn holes, and lots of information and goodies to share.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Brethren Benefit Trust<\/strong>\u00a0hosted a photo booth with hats and costumes (hence the Vikings, flamingos, and Minnie ears).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Brethren Disaster Ministries<\/strong>\u00a0offered literature about their many services to those in crisis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Brethren Higher Education Association\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0game was tossing softballs into milk pails, and the representatives of the church-related colleges and universities handed out literature and carabiners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Brethren Press\u2019s game<\/strong>\u00a0was throwing a ball into a \u201c25 Days to Jesus: Advent Calendar for Kids\u201d stand-up display for a prize.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Brethren Volunteer Service<\/strong>\u00a0had a corn hole game and cutaways for photos, and BVS also challenged youth to do something to serve someone else. Those who made the commitment were rewarded with a purple buffer. A large map of the globe was sliced into pieces and participants were asked to put them back into order, and then asked to \u201cServe the World.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Dunker Punks<\/strong>\u00a0had a broadcasting set up for a podcast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; Among the districts<\/strong>\u00a0that sponsored a game or booth, the Northern Plains District\u00a0plastic chicken toss\u00a0got a little out of hand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; The Office of Global Mission and Service<\/strong>\u00a0asked youth a 21 question survey, and had a global map on which participants matched numbers with BVS project sites, international Church of the Brethren denominations, and locations of Global Mission workers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; The Office of Ministry<\/strong>\u00a0invited participants to draw what ministry means to them.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5274\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5274\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5274 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/face-painting-at-the-brethren.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/face-painting-at-the-brethren.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.brethren.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/09\/face-painting-at-the-brethren-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5274\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Face painting at the Brethren Block Party.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>&#8212; The Office of Peacebuilding and Policy<\/strong>\u00a0did face-painting in the shapes of hearts and crosses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; On Earth Peace<\/strong>\u00a0had a \u201cfishing for peace\u201d game and bumper stickers for the winners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; The Outdoor Ministries Association<\/strong>\u00a0hosted an aerial nine-square game, a variation on the traditional four-square with tall poles over which players hit and pushed the ball in the air rather than on the ground.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8212; The NYC Press Team (Church of the Brethren communications)<\/strong>\u00a0had two giant Jenga games. When someone pulled a block marked with a number, they answered a \u201cWould You Rather\u201d question.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Favorites?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI loved learning about the world and becoming more conscious about our current state of the world and how Brethren are helping.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>&#8212; Zachary from Illinois<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIdentifying the geographic areas. I felt I was good at it and got 18 of the 21 questions.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>&#8212; Derek from Indiana<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Dunker Punks Podcast was my favorite.
