\"\"Registration for the 2018 National Youth Conference of the Church of the Brethren opens in six days on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. (central time). NYC takes place at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., on July 21-26. \u201cCheck out what the registration forms will look like, and see exactly what registration information you will need,\u201d said an invitation from NYC coordinator Kelsey Murray. \u201cDon\u2019t forget you\u2019ll receive a free drawstring backpack for registering by Jan. 21 at midnight!\u201d<\/p>\n

The registration fee is $500; a non-refundable deposit of $250 must be paid at the time of registration. Youth groups are encouraged to register together, and may pay by mailing a check to the Youth and Young Adult Ministry office or by paying online with a credit card. If paying by check, the deposit is due within a week of registering. The rest of the registration payment is due by April 30.<\/p>\n

When registering for NYC, remember to order an official blue NYC t-shirt. Sunday, July 22, will be NYC Shirt Day during the conference. \u201cLet\u2019s fill Moby Arena with blue!\u201d said Murray\u2019s invitation. Shirts cost $20 and will be mailed to participants in June.<\/p>\n

The NYC office will be offering a Facebook live video that day at 6:45 p.m. (central time) so that people who are making registrations may ask questions about the process and receive answers in real time. \"\"Registration parties and lock-ins<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe would love to see photos from your registration parties and lock-ins!\u201d Murray says. \u201cWe can’t wait to see all the fun youth are having and the excitement building around NYC 2018!\u201d E-mail photos to\u00a0cobyouth@brethren.org<\/a>\u00a0or message them to the NYC Facebook page or NYC Instagram account.<\/p>\n

Air travel update<\/strong><\/p>\n

NYC has an agreement with Southwest Airlines for discounted fares to Denver, Colo. To receive the discount, purchase tickets between Jan. 15 and June 30. The link to the discount webpage will be shared on Jan. 15. Participants will receive 2 percent off \u201cWanna get away\u201d fares, 8 percent off \u201cAny time\u201d fares, or 8 percent off \u201cBusiness select\u201d fares. As always, Southwest offers two free checked bags. All bookings must include one traveler who is 18 years or older at the time of booking.<\/p>\n

NYC Speech Contest<\/strong><\/p>\n

Youth are invited to submit entries for the NYC Speech Contest. \u201cDo you have a message to share?\u201d said Murray\u2019s invitation. \u201cHow does the theme scripture speak to your life and context? What would you want to be heard among your generation and greater denomination? Write it down, record it, and send it in!\u201d<\/p>\n

The topic of speeches should center on the NYC theme, \u201cBound Together: Clothed in Christ\u201d (Colossians 3:12-15, with emphasis on verse 14). Only youth attending NYC 2018 are invited to enter. Entries must include a written and an audio or video copy of the speech. Entries should be 500-700 words (about 10 minutes spoken), and e-mailed to the NYC Office by April 1.<\/p>\n
