Al Otro Lado.”

The Supreme Court on Thursday, June 25, 2026, issued a 6-3 decision in the case finding that the administration “had authority to turn away migrants seeking asylum along the U.S.-Mexico border by physically preventing them from crossing into the United States as they seek protection from persecution,” said a report from the Church of the Brethren’s Office of Peacebuilding and Policy.

“The decision in effect allows the United States to refuse asylum to all asylum seekers outside the United States who seek to enter lawfully at a U.S. border, which would have devastating consequences for the hundreds of thousands that flee persecution and war and seek refuge in the United States,” the office reported.

Said the Kairos press statement, in part:

“Yesterday, the Supreme Court authorized the United States to turn its backs on many of our most vulnerable neighbors. We are alarmed and outraged by the rulings in both Mullin v. Al Otro Lado and Mullin v. Doe. These decisions strike down the right to asylum for millions and strip Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for over 300,000 people who have found life-saving refuge in this country. Countless human beings will needlessly die and whole communities will be ripped apart because of these rulings.

“These decisions are not only a shameful stain on our democracy, they are contrary to our deepest moral values and faith traditions.”

Find the full press statement at https://kairoscenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Kairos-Statement_-Mullin-v.-Al-Otro-Lado-Doe-1.pdf

#MissionAndMinistryBoard #StrategicPlan #RacialJustice #LoveOurNeighbors #Discipleship #NewTestamentGiving

———-

Find more Church of the Brethren news:

Health Care Education Scholarships are awarded to nine recipients

Engage event offers opportunity to gather in support of global mission, resources are available

Shine curriculum for Fall 2026 includes new features

BFIA grants support congregations’ outreach to neighbors and a memorial to victims of violence, among other projects

Volunteers rise up: New CWS outreach campaign draws refugee advocates to Elizabethtown Church

The Kairos Center, which coordinated an amicus brief in which the Church of the Brethren joined with other denominations and faith groups, has issued a press statement on the case “Mullin v.
