The Kairos Center, which coordinated an amicus brief in which the Church of the Brethren joined with other denominations and faith groups, has issued a press statement on the case \u201cMullin v. Al Otro Lado.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Supreme Court on Thursday, June 25, 2026, issued a 6-3 decision in the case finding that the administration \u201chad authority to turn away migrants seeking asylum along the U.S.-Mexico border by physically preventing them from crossing into the United States as they seek protection from persecution,\u201d said a report from the Church of the Brethren\u2019s Office of Peacebuilding and Policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe decision in effect allows the United States to refuse asylum to all asylum seekers outside the United States who seek to enter lawfully at a U.S. border, which would have devastating consequences for the hundreds of thousands that flee persecution and war and seek refuge in the United States,\u201d the office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Said the Kairos press statement, in part: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYesterday, the Supreme Court authorized the United States to turn its backs on many of our most vulnerable neighbors. We are alarmed and outraged by the rulings in both Mullin v. Al Otro Lado and Mullin v. Doe. These decisions strike down the right to asylum for millions and strip Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for over 300,000 people who have found life-saving refuge in this country.
